Wisdom Teeth Extraction Timeline

Following wisdom teeth extraction it can take up to six weeks for the bone and gum tissue to heal. The time varies on whether the wisdom teeth were impacted in gum or bone.

Always take into consideration that not everyone’s wisdom teeth recovery timeline will be the same. Teeth that are more deeply impacted may require more healing time. The healing process begins once a blood clot forms. The gum tissue should be sutured near the extraction site for this to occur. Most patients find that the gum tissue heals itself to the point where it isn’t bothersome within a three week time period. Pain isn’t apparent as much and dissapates after a couple of days. If the surgery is more extensive then the pain can linger on.

Here are some tips to increase your wisdom teeth recovery timeline:

  • Don’t use an electric toothbrush
  • Don’t smoke or use chewing tosbacco
  • Don’t drink with a straw
  • Don’t eat or avoid foods that are hard or have small seeds in them

Always consult with Dr. Brown if you experience increasing pain, swelling, or have concerns regarding the healing process
